Quilting
2026
‘Quilting’ was a project in collaboration with artists at InCahootz and Eilidh Weir, developed through Glasgow Life’s Artists in Communities programme.
It ran on Friday mornings, for the month of September, culminating in a quilt made by the hands of 11 people. Sessions were led by Eilidh Weir, a multi-disciplinary artist engaging with mending, sewing and banner-making, using sustainable practices and second-hand textiles. You can find more of Eilidh’s fantastic work here: https://allthatisbraw.bigcartel.com/
Over four weeks, we explored collective sewing and quilting. Everyone contributed their own individual ‘9-patch’ quilt block, with some extra blocks created using single fabrics. The quilt blocks were then laid out and assembled into a final pattern of rows. All the rows were sewn on the machines, and the final quilting was done by hand.
The finished quilt will now live at the InCahootz hub!

In Cahootz was co-founded in 2010 by well-seasoned community arts workers, Kate Black and Phyllis Steel. They use the arts as the main tool to create a safe, nurturing, productive and creative environment, enabling them to put their core values into action. They aim to target and provide opportunities for marginalised people who have, for various reasons, found themselves excluded from society. The organisation’s ultimate aim is to achieve its vision of helping to build an empowered, creative and confident society.
