The Constellation Quilt
2025
This quilt was made by families through a series of facilitated workshops, in partnership with local charity NOVA. More information ca be found on their website: https://novanew.org.uk/
I designed and facilitated 3 sessions, each beginning with a gallery visit to inspire an afternoon of making. Session were designed for flexibility in attendance, enabling people to attend consecutively or just one-off.
Through my research into collectivity and quilting, I designed sessions exploring decorative tile techniques and a diverse range of ceramic skills. Over the sessions we explored slipware, coloured clay and high relief. Each tile was made with small holes in the corners, allowing for all the pieces to attach together like patchwork.
The Constellation Quilt was part of the October Half-Term display and we invited all families to a “Welcome Back’ event to look and talk about their work.
A huge thank you to all the families who brought their inspiration and creative ideas to be a part of this project!
Thank you also to staff members at NOVA and the V&A Families Team for their help in facilitating these sessions.
